  1. WOW 5 Star Review

Posted by on 22nd Feb 2017

We absolutely LOVE this flashlight! It literally lit up our entire back lot!! We love the quality of our ThruNite products as well. This particular flash light is very heavy but that's what we wanted, something substantial but not too big if that makes sense to anyone. :) We have the headlamps and a little penlight as well. All are excellent. You just can't go wrong with ThruNite!

  2. TN4A Hi Neutral. It is a thrower 5 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Jan 2017

I am blown away with how great of a 'ceiling' bounce / room illuminator these TN4A Hi s really are {considering their tiny 'narrow focused' [Hi] centre spot}.
The Neutral tint XP-L Hi used in these TN4A Hi s of mine have what looks like maybe around 4,500k +.
And this's heaps preferred over typical 5,000k neutral from elsewhere.
The TN4A Hi is one heavy beast, but it's rated to 2m drop resistance, so who cares about its weight.
The flexibility of 4x AA is awesome. I'm using regular [2000mAh] eneloop, `cause I read somewhere that [2450mAh] eneloop PRO s are somewhat tight.
There is, however, a tiny gap between carrier and [inner] wall of flashlight's tail assembly. I'm gunna modify this by placing electrician's tape around
wall of tail assembly at top and bottom. This is where carrier is widest, and, thus, I'll not interfer with battery positions within actual carrier.
The eneloop [regular] are an easy fit both to get in and to get out again.
The BEST thing of all is the carrier is NON-Polarised. ie. there is no right and wrong way to place inside tail assembly.

    I'm glad I snapped up 3.
I am pleased with ALL 3x these.

As with any light using XP-L Hi, there isn't too much corona surrounding the spot. But in the case of these 45mm wide lensed TN4A s, the flood diameter is literally huge.
I have other torches which throw out to 400m just like this ThruNite Hi does, but only the Thrunite has this huge flood circle.
And it's flood area is functional to boot, even on low / 14 lm setting.

The 80day 0.2 lm firefly seems brigher than claimed.
The flood area is useless / I cannot see presence of a corona,
BUT I find it easy to read by the light of 'lowest' firefly's spot.
I am extremely suprised [and delighted] to find that ALL 3 of my TN4A Hi s are consistantly close to each other in brightness on firefly mode.
I did expect to 'cherry pick' a fav. out of the 3,
but discovered that I can read by the light from any of these 3,
provided I only rely on the tiny, tiny spot.

I never go caving, but if I did, and if I got trapped,
I would rely on my TN4A Hi 's firefly setting for the duration of my trapped underground life!
I suspect that why I perceive it to be far greater than 0.2 lm is because of the concentration to a tiny sized spot, compared to other torches of mine @ 1 lm.
Above 1 lm, and I call it Moonlight.
Below 0.5 lm, and I call it Firefly.
These ThruNite torches seem like between high firefly and low moonlight at their centre spot,
but I still say it's true firefly {but on the upper limit for firefly, only}.
    I never wanted 0.2 lm, but would rather 0.5 - 1.0 lm, and I feel like that's what I got times 3 :-)
The bezel looks like one thick/wide beastie.
I believe it'd help greatly to protect, during a 2 metre fall.

I chose the Thrunite over other brands [like NiteCore] due to lowest of low parasitic drain.
The main review suggests 10 years to full drain; when left inside and connected.
I'd thus consider 5 years to half capacity, I guess: therefore torch is still good-to-go, 5 years later.
Of course I 'could' lockout with a huge twist, or remove carrier entirely, but .... I'm lazy, plus I want readynessness.
The other main reason for choosing ThruNite over all others, is it's awsome non-polarised carrier.
[...] keep a spare magazine [read, loaded carrier] in the pocket,
and when the batteries go flat, switch over to spare magazine in the dark by feel, without concern regarding "which way does it go?",

Great torches ThruNite and thanx for the Neutral options :-)

  3. Simply the best 4AA flashlight on the market. 5 Star Review

  5. Thrunite Tn4A (XP-L) 4 Star Review

Posted by on 20th Dec 2016

I bought the thrunite Tn4A(XP-L) and his brother the Tn4A (XP-L High)
and i want to start my review with the purchase. It was easy and fast to order the 2 lamps from the thrunite site and i was really impressed how fast they delivered the lamps. After 2 days i could call myself a proud user of the Tn4A. Now lets come to the lamp himself, i love the form and the materials perfectly crafted everything feels so good. Ive tested the water proof and the shock proof and the only thing i can tell is that there is nothing wrong after slamming it from 2 meters onto the ground or drowning it in 2m water. The brightness and the handling (modes) is really good and easy to use.
The Batteries are easy to change and lasting as long as they are told to do. Beside all the positive things there is so far (after 2 weeks of use) just one thing i dont like or im not happy with. I bought the XP-L for me and the XP-L high for my dad and im a little dissapointed because of the fact that the focus point is as strong as his focus. I thought about the lamp shining a wider area and not beeing as focused as the high Tn4A. But this is not making me regret the purchase iam really happy to bought the lamp and i can just tell everyone to vuy it too.

  6. Love at first light 5 Star Review

Posted by on 29th Nov 2016

No, it wasn't. I bought the TN4A because it runs on AAs, it's powerful, small and portable enough and I wanted to compare it with Nitecore EA41. I was a little underwhelmed at first with its 1150 lumens but I really like the more generous and practical light spill circle compared to EA41.
The secret to falling in love with this type of flashlights (at least, that was my case) is to judge their lighting power in the complete darkness of a foggy country road. The TN4A has everything one could possibly ask for: good enough throw distance for penetrating the fog, very practical diffusion for the peripheral view, small size and weight to fit almost any pocket, and it runs on cheap and easy to find AAs. And it doesn't cost a fortune!

  7. High expectations, met up or exceeded all! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 19th Nov 2016

What you expect from a flash light is: a lot of light.
Exactly what this one gives you combined with a solid build quality and great stamina.
    Highly recommended.
